Castello dei Rampolla is a family-run wine estate located in the southern valley of Chianti Classico known as the “Conca d’Oro,” the Golden Basin. The land on which it stands has been owned by the di Napoli Rampolla family since 1739.

The estate produced its first bottles of Chianti Classico in 1975. The first bottles of Sammarco, a Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and Sangiovese, were released in 1982. Castello dei Rampolla began practicing biodynamic farming in 1994, producing their first biodynamic wine, D’Alceo, in 1996.

The 2019 Castello dei Rampolla Liu is a captivating red wine from Tuscany, Italy that showcases the beauty and complexity of the Merlot varietal. With its deep red color and enticing aromas, this wine is sure to captivate both the novice and seasoned wine enthusiasts.

Upon pouring, the 2019 Liu reveals a stunning hue that immediately catches the eye. Delicate aromas of berries, cherries, and violets dance on the nose, accompanied by intriguing notes of black olive and black truffle. This aromatic symphony creates a sense of depth and complexity that sets the stage for the tasting experience to come.

On the palate, the Liu displays a medium-to-full body, with linear tannins that are polished and fine. These tannins elegantly run through the center palate, offering a structured and balanced mouthfeel. As the wine unfolds, it reveals its tight, yet pretty and racy character, leaving a lasting impression.

Renowned wine critic James Suckling awarded the 2019 Liu an impressive 93 points, praising its complexity and noting its potential for further aging. He recommends enjoying this wine after 2023, allowing it to develop and evolve.
