Decanter’s excellent 95-point review highlights how the wine “delivers all the black-fruited density and loamy earth character typical of the 2019 vintage,” adding “robust, integrated tannins” and “layers of dark chocolate and new cedar wood accents.” They also note a freshness that keeps the wine moving, describing it as “framed by zesty blood orange acidity,” with “tobacco and wild sage” carrying through an “everlasting full-bodied finish.”

James Suckling also awarded an excellent 95 points, calling out aromatics first: “a fragrant nose of mulberries, blueberries, chocolate, cedar and vanilla.” On the palate, he emphasizes control over sheer power, describing it as “rich and structured with a creamy texture,” finishing long, and “always in check, with balance and focus.” He suggests drinking from 2024.

Other reviewers underscore approachability alongside the structure. The Wine Independent (91) finds it “soft, and juicy in the mouth,” with cassis, black raspberry, plum preserves, plus “cedar chest, pencil lead, and tobacco,” ending with a “lifted finish.” Vinous’ Antonio Galloni (93+) is more reserved on current openness, noting it is “incredibly tight today” and advising, “Readers need to be patient,” expecting it to unfurl further with time.
