Despite coaxing from the glass, the 2019 Beaune Clos des Mouches Blanc 1er Cru is much more subdued on the nose than its peers, but in retrospect, I applaud its restraint. Moving on to the palate, it is well balanced with admirable tension, lightly spiced with white pepper and stem ginger. It gains weight and substance toward the finish. The 2019 is crafted in a more low-key style, brushes aside the opulence of the growing season and contains the sapidity to tempt you back for another sip. This is a bit of a dark horse. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
