Robin Lail's snapshot of Napa Valley. Sourced from sites in Oakville, Rutherford and St Helena. A classic nose of blackberry, graphite and rich oak spices tinged with cinnamon. Weighty, saturated black-toned fruit on the palate gives way to a panoply of wild herbs and chocolate, framed by fine-grained tannins and a long, lingering finish.

Blended from a number of the Napa Valley's AVAs, Lail's 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Blueprint also contains a 4% splash of Petit Verdot. Aged in 45% new French oak for 17 months, it remains nicely fruit forward, with prominent notes of blueberries and cassis. Full-bodied and soft but richly textured, it's an easy-drinking Cab with a long, velvety finish. For sub-$100, it has to be considered a fine value in the context of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. - JC
