First released in 2005 as a special project of Tenuta Sette Ponti's Antonio Moretti, Orma translates to “mark” or “footprint”. A blend of 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Cabernet Franc, the wine is aged for 12 months in French barriques. Delighting critics and connoisseurs alike, this single-estate Super Tuscan has received many awards and accolades.

The 2019 Orma [Proprietary Blend] is a red wine produced by Orma in the Bolgheri sub-region of Tuscany, Italy. This wine is a blend of 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Cabernet Franc, sourced from 20-year-old vines situated between the renowned estates of Ornellaia and Sassicaia. It is sealed with a cork and has an alcohol content of 15%.

According to Decanter, which awarded the wine a score of 94, the 2019 Orma has "fragranced aromas that really stand out, perfumed red and black fruits alongside spicy eucalyptus." The reviewer notes that the tannins are "present and coat the mouth with dense blackcurrant flavors," highlighting the wine’s power, freshness, and elegance. However, they mention that it is "tight and somewhat closed at the moment," recommending it for aging.

James Suckling gives this wine an excellent review, scoring it 97. He describes it as a "tight and powerful Orma with solid tannins that beautifully frame the fruit in the wine." He praises its full-bodied and focused character with intense structure and fruit, calling it "perhaps the best Orma ever." Suckling suggests waiting until after 2025 to try it, allowing the wine to open up.

Jane Anson, scoring the wine 93, also highlights its impressive nature. She describes it as an "impressive Bordeaux blend with the fragrance and spice that the Italian climate brings to the grape varieties." Anson mentions that its tannins are "well drawn and present," with a clear emphasis on spice notes and eucalyptus edging. She notes that although it has high alcohol, it is well-balanced and offers good value for its style. She advises decanting it for a few hours if consumed now.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, through reviewer Monica Larner, awards the 2019 Orma a score of 95. Larner notes that the wine opens with "a soothing display of ripe fruit with blackberry, candied cherry, spice, white pepper and even a speck of red chili flake." She describes the mouthfeel as "round and soft with a pop of sour cherry," and provides details about the vineyard's soil composition, which includes pebbles, clay, and a little sand at 60 meters above sea level.

In summary, the 2019 Orma is a highly regarded red wine with a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. The reviews emphasize its intense fruit character, structured tannins, and potential for aging. Excellent reviews from James Suckling and Robert Parker's Wine Advocate particularly stand out, suggesting this wine is one to watch for in the coming years.
