Pauillac de Château Latour is the third wine of First Growth Château Latour, produced since 1989 and built to offer an earlier, more accessible view of the estate’s Pauillac style. In 2019 it is a Cabernet-led blend—55.8% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38.8% Merlot and 5.4% Petit Verdot—drawn largely from younger vines and lots not selected for Les Forts de Latour. The estate has noted it as a “generous and fruity” introduction to Latour, and the 2019 bottling has been released after extended cellaring at the château.

Critical reception is notably strong for a third wine, with several excellent reviews in the low-to-mid 90s. James Suckling awards 94 points, highlighting “chocolate, cedar and walnuts… and some currant,” calling it “medium-bodied with some lovely fruit and juiciness” and “attractive now.” Lisa Perrotti-Brown (The Wine Independent) scores it 93 and describes it as “plush and oh-so-juicy… fantastically intense, yet well-poised,” adding that it’s “the best Pauillac de Chateau Latour since the fabulous 2016.” Jane Anson also gives 93 points, calling it “easily the best Pauillac de Latour in recent years,” with “gourmet smoked plum and blueberry fruit,” a “graphite edge,” and “waves of cocoa bean, liquorice and smoked earth,” concluding bluntly: “buy buy buy.”

Stylistically, reviewers converge on ripe dark fruit, classic Pauillac markers, and a polished but present tannic frame. Jeff Leve (92 points) notes “blackberries, truffle, cigar box, cedar,” plus “chalky tannins,” and says it is “ready and delicious now” while improving through 2040. Jeb Dunnuck (92) calls it “a rocking little Pauillac” with currants, tobacco and “enough tannins to evolve for 20 years or more.” Wine Advocate (91) emphasizes a layered profile of “cassis and plums” with “powdery tannins” and “a broad drinking window.” Vinous’ Antonio Galloni (93) sums up the appeal: “dark, fleshy and seductive… especially bold, luscious.”
