Wine Enthusiast, October 2022

The magnificent Merlot in the blend has pushed up the alcohol, while also giving a velvet touch and power to the wine. This estate is now on top form, producing this generously ripe, black plum flavored wine. It is lifted...

Decanter, January 2022

Such a seductive soft perfume to the nose, delicate yet generous aromatics of cherry and rose. The palate is juicy and fresh, charming yet energetic with such crystalline purity and balance. Tannins are smooth but softly...

The purity of fruit is pretty phenomenal here with blackcurrants, cherries and crushed-stone undertones. Floral notes of roses and violets, too. Full-bodied, yet this is a linear style with super fine tannins and great...

A brilliant vintage at Troplong, displaying an enticing blend of power and restraint, or rather measured extraction and controlled power. This was a warm year with leisurely ripening where you could go all out, but here...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2022

Has any Bordeaux château realized a more wholesale stylistic revolution in so short a time than Troplong Mondot? Since Aymeric de Gironde arrived at the estate in late 2017, the ultra powerful "shock and awe" style of the...

98+ The 2019 Troplong Mondot is deep garnet-colored. It opens with violets, dark chocolate, and black cherries on the nose, giving way to notes of licorice, cardamom, and wet slate. The palate is full, taut, and muscular...

While it is the intensity of the floral bouquet you find at first, it doesn't take any time before discovering its nuances of licorice, black and red plums, dark cherries, cocoa, and box of cooking spices. Full-bodied...

Vinous, February 2023

The 2019 Troplong Mondot is composed and beautifully-focused on the nose, well-defined with vivacious brambly red fruit suffused with minerals and black truffle shavings. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black...

The Grand Vin 2019 Château Troplong Mondot checks in as 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc, brought up in a mix of new and used barrels. Its deep ruby/purple hue is followed by a pretty...

A flicker of savory leads off, before being quickly absorbed into the core of juicy plum, blackberry and fig compote flavors. Long laces of alder, black tea and espresso crema wrap around the finish, where a hint of...

Chateau Troplong-Mondot is grown on extensive vineyards rich in limestone and clay soils. Powerful and well-structured with pronounced complex tannins, its deep aromas of truffles and blackberries develop over time.

The grapes are hand-harvested, totally destemmed, and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, moving to oak barrels for secondary malolactic fermentation. The wine is matured in oak barrels (75% new oak and 25% one-year old) for 12 to 24 months depending on the vintage. The average production of the grand vin is between 60,000 to 90,000 bottles.

The 2019 Troplong-Mondot is a Bordeaux blend from the renowned Saint-Emilion sub-region in Bordeaux, France. This wine, produced by Troplong-Mondot, showcases a deep garnet color and is sealed with a traditional cork closure. It boasts an impressive 15% alcohol content, reflecting the robust style of this vintage.

This wine has received exceptional acclaim from multiple reviewers, with Wine Enthusiast awarding it a perfect score of 100. Roger Voss of Wine Enthusiast highlights the wine’s "magnificent Merlot" component, which contributes to its velvet texture and power. He describes it as a "generously ripe, black plum flavored wine" that is both intense and lifted by acidity, recommending it for drinking from 2026.

Decanter also highly praises this vintage, giving it a score of 99. The review notes the wine's "seductive soft perfume" and "delicate yet generous aromatics of cherry and rose." The palate is described as "juicy and fresh," with a crystalline purity and balance, featuring smooth tannins and flavors of ripe red and black cherry, mint, dark chocolate, and graphite. Decanter concludes that this wine is "incredible" and recommends a drinking window from 2028 to 2050.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, another respected source, gives the wine a score of 98. William Kelley commends the estate’s shift from an ultra-powerful style to a more refined approach under Aymeric de Gironde's direction. Kelley describes the wine as having "complex aromas of wild berries, violets, coniferous forest floor, licorice, raw cocoa, and subtle spices," with a "full-bodied, velvety and layered palate."

Jane Anson also awards the wine a score of 98, appreciating its "measured extraction and controlled power." She highlights the wine's natural freshness and nuanced flavors of ripe damson and black cherry, complemented by slate, sage, and bitter black chocolate.

James Suckling gives the 2019 Troplong-Mondot a score of 98, noting its "purity of fruit" and "linear style with super fine tannins." He describes it as having "great length and beauty" and recommends trying it after 2026.

Other notable reviews include Jeb Dunnuck and Wine Spectator, both giving scores of 94, and Vinous with a score of 95. Neal Martin of Vinous describes the wine as "composed and beautifully-focused," with a nose of "vivacious brambly red fruit" and a palate that is "medium-bodied with sappy black fruit."

Overall, the 2019 Troplong-Mondot is a highly acclaimed wine, known for its balance of power and elegance, with a variety of complex flavors and aromas that make it a standout in its vintage.
