Domaine Jean Grivot’s 2020 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Boudots is a single-vineyard Pinot Noir from the northern end of Nuits-Saint-Georges, in the “Zone Vosnoise,” just across the border from Vosne-Romanée (near Malconsorts). The domaine farms organically without certification and, for this cuvée, works with a 0.85-hectare holding. In 2020 they began picking on 3 September; Decanter notes the fruit came in with “an entirely correct pH of around 3.4,” reflecting the estate’s focus on ripe tannins and preserved freshness in a warm, early year.

Critical reception is excellent across the board, with multiple 94–95 point assessments. Jasper Morris (Inside Burgundy) is especially enthusiastic, describing “dense rich black purple” color, a “very heady” nose that “Boudots can carry,” and “a wonderful depth, length and breadth… brilliantly energetic fruit.” He highlights structure that stays measured: “tannins just in the right place,” finishing on “black fruit with a touch of liquorice” alongside “wafts of redder notes.”

Vinous (Neal Martin) also calls this one of the standouts in Grivot’s Nuits range, writing it has “the best aromatics among Grivot’s Nuits Saint-Georges,” with “very well defined red berry fruit, briary and light sous-bois aromas.” On the palate it is “medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins… fresh and saline on the finish,” and he concludes it has “real verve and class,” while recommending patience (2026–2050).

Decanter, scoring 94, emphasizes the wine’s frame and polish, citing “substance and structure to support the generous lashings of new oak,” yet calling the result “elegant and classic in style.”

Wine Spectator’s 94-point review underlines the wine’s darker, savory side: “black currant, blackberry, iron and spice… a hint of bacon fat,” delivered in an “opulent and expansive” style with “fine equilibrium overall,” best from 2026–2043. Only 45 cases were imported.
