Tenuta Sette Ponti sits in the land of Sangiovese and Chianti, not far from the historic town of Arezzo. The estate received its name from Antonio F. Moretti, who wanted to pay homage to the so-called Road Sette Ponti (Seven Bridges), which connects the banks of the River Arno between Florence and Arezzo.

Tenuta Sette Ponti holds 330 hectares of land, of which more than 50 are planted with vineyards—tended entirely without mechanization. Included are Sangiovese, but also some great "internationals", such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and a small selection of other varieties. The soil composition has a heterogeneous structure, well combined between clay, sand, limestone, and typical Chianti stone Galestro.

The grapes undergo a “one by one” manual selection when they arrive in the cellars. An open vat fermentation is preferred along with a gentle pressing to get the best aroma from the grapes without bitterness or excessive drying.

Crognolo, the first label produced at Tenuta Sette Ponti, is an elegant wine named after a wild bush, Cornus, that grows abundantly on the estate. It is made predominantly from Sangiovese, a traditional Tuscan variety that produces elegant and age-worthy wines, with a small amount of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Crognolo unites the class of Sangiovese with the complexity bestowed by oak aging.

Intense ruby red color leads to a full bouquet of ripe cherry and berries, well blended with spicy notes that give class and complexity. It is full bodied, well balanced and vibrant on the palate, and has well rounded tannins and depth.

The 2020 Sette Ponti Crognolo Proprietary Red Wine is a captivating and elegant red wine hailing from the picturesque region of Tuscany, Italy. Crafted with expertise by the renowned Sette Ponti winery, this wine showcases the artistry and passion of its producers.

In the glass, this wine displays a deep and enchanting red hue, enticing the senses with its vibrant and alluring appearance. The aromas that waft from the glass are a symphony of dark cherries, mulberries, and luscious chocolate, accompanied by subtle hints of bark. As the wine opens up, delightful notes of citrus zest and dried flowers emerge, adding complexity and intrigue to the bouquet.

Upon the first sip, the palate is met with a velvety and caressing texture, thanks to the plush and finely woven tannins that gently embrace the mouth. The rich flavors of dark cherry and red fruits dance on the tongue, intertwining with the savory spice that adds depth and character to the wine. As the wine evolves in the glass, it reveals a chewy and satisfying finish, leaving a lasting impression on the palate.

This extraordinary red blend is composed of 95% Sangiovese and 5% Merlot, showcasing the marriage of two exceptional varietals. The Sangiovese brings forth its signature elegance and structure, while the Merlot contributes a touch of softness and roundness. The result is a harmonious and well-balanced wine that captivates the senses from the first sip to the last.

Notable wine critics have also recognized the excellence of the 2020 Sette Ponti Crognolo Proprietary Red Wine. James Suckling awarded it an impressive score of 93 points, praising its softness, full body, and finely woven tannins. Jane Anson also commends the wine's depth of red cherry fruit and savoury spice, noting its enjoyable and approachable nature. Wine Spectator concurs, highlighting the firmness, depth, and balance of this remarkable red. Decanter, on the other hand, describes it as ample, fresh, and easy to drink, with a seductive palate and a lingering aftertaste.

With an alcohol content of 14.5%, this wine is a testament to the exceptional quality and craftsmanship of Sette Ponti. It is a wine that can be enjoyed now or cellared for further development. Whether you choose to indulge in it now or lay it down for a few more years, the 2020 Sette Ponti Crognolo Proprietary Red Wine promises an unforgettable journey through the Tuscan terroir.
