It's really hard to resist this wine's abundant cassis, red currant and strawberry fruit. There’s an interplay of restrained ripeness and gentle tannins. This is quite full-bodied, but the silky tannins and long, lively...

Famille Perrin’s 2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape “Les Sinards” is positioned as the family’s more immediately approachable counterpart to Château de Beaucastel, drawing largely on younger Beaucastel vines along with additional Châteauneuf plots. In style and construction, it leans on Grenache as the core variety, supported by other traditional Rhône grapes. The estate describes Les Sinards as “our other Châteauneuf,” and the 2023 shows why: it delivers the appellation’s ripe fruit and spice with a polished, early-drinking feel.

Winemaking details point to a classic, traditional framework rather than a heavily oaked profile. The Perrins note that Syrah is vinified with stems while the remainder is destemmed, with fermentation split between wooden vats and stainless steel, followed by maturation in large oak casks (foudres) for around two years.

Critics have responded strongly, with James Suckling awarding an excellent 94 points and emphasizing how easy it is to enjoy: “It’s really hard to resist this wine’s abundant cassis, red currant and strawberry fruit,” adding that “silky tannins and long, lively finish make it taste lighter than it really is.” He calls it “quite full-bodied,” but with “restrained ripeness and gentle tannins,” and concludes, “Drink or hold.”

Jeb Dunnuck (92 points) highlights a fragrant, savory edge—“peppery garigue” alongside “red and black fruit” and “sweet violet-like aromas and flavors”—and says it “is going to shine right out of the gate.”

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate also rates it 92 points, with Yohan Castaing noting it is “slightly peppery,” with “aromas of dark berries and spices,” “gourmand and juicy,” and “fresh and lively despite its structured tannins,” finishing “long” and “penetrating.” He sums up its role succinctly: “a perfect introduction to the Perrin family’s universe.”
