Tenuta San Guido’s Guidalberto 2024 is the estate’s earlier-drinking, Bordeaux-leaning red from coastal Tuscany, bottled as Toscana IGT and built around Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. While Guidalberto is often framed as a counterpart to Sassicaia, the 2024 stands on its own as a polished, accessible expression of Bolgheri’s Cabernet-Merlot style at 13.5% alcohol.
This is also a notably well-reviewed vintage. James Suckling delivers the standout score at 95 points—an excellent review—calling it “distinctly Tuscan” for its notes of “currants, cedar, mahogany, bark and orange peel,” and emphasizing its “softness and freshness” alongside “very soft yet fine tannins,” concluding, “So delicious now. Drink or hold.” That through-line of immediate appeal shows up across the major critics.
Decanter (93 points—another excellent review) flags the vintage shift most directly, noting that “2024 is a lighter offering with less density of fruit than in previous years,” but adds that those who lean into the style “will be rewarded with a juicy dark berry core with velvety tannins and flecks of cherry and pomegranate.” Decanter also highlights “lifted herbal and floral aromatics,” describing the overall feel as “breezy, easy and fun.”
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate (92 points) focuses on energy and shape, citing “spice and drive through the mid-palate” and “fragrant notes of cherry,” with “bright acidity that keeps the palate fresh and agile.” The note observes that “tannins show a touch of dryness,” but frames the wine’s net effect as “energetic and easy to appreciate.”
Vinous (91 points) reinforces the near-term drinking window, describing “succulent dark red fruit, cedar, spice, pipe tobacco, licorice and dried herbs,” and calling it “supple and easygoing.” Antonio Galloni also reports practical vintage details: the blend is “58% Cabernet Sauvignon and 42% Merlot,” with “production…down by about 25%.”
