The 2021 Vineyard 29 Aida Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is a Napa Valley Cabernet from the Aida Estate Vineyard in St. Helena, a site with a long local history dating to the 1920s. Vineyard 29 has focused increasingly on Cabernet Sauvignon here, and in 2021 that direction shows up clearly in the wine’s profile and in its critical reception.

This is, by any measure, an excellently reviewed release. Jeb Dunnuck scores it 97 points and calls it “another gem of a wine from this estate,” noting that the 2021 includes “1% Petit Verdot” and “spent 20 months in French oak.” Dunnuck describes a “darker red and blue-slanted fruit profile” alongside “classic tobacco, scorched earth, and graphite aromatics,” and he emphasizes its “seamless, layered, elegant mouthfeel” and “ripe, building tannins.” He expects it to “benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age” and adds that it “will see its 20th birthday in fine form,” a direct endorsement of its structure and aging track.

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate (Joe Czerwinski) lands at 96+ points, highlighting how close it is to the producer’s other top Cabernet: “very close in quality to the 29 Estate bottling,” but “with perhaps a touch more concentration and tannin.” Czerwinski finds the fruit more direct here—“black cherries to take the lead”—supported by “cedary oak and hints of dusty earth.” He calls the palate “full-bodied and structured,” and while he notes “considerable tannins,” he also stresses that they are “fully ripe,” pointing to refinement rather than austerity.

Vinous also awards 96 points, with Antonio Galloni calling it “a super-classic wine from this sector of St. Helena,” “dark, sumptuous and beautifully resonant,” with “black fruit, mocha, new leather, spice and espresso” building with time.
