Chateau d’Issan is located in the center of the Margaux appellation and rated as a third growth in the official Bordeaux Classification of 1855. Mild weather, moderated by proximity to the sea and the Gironde Estuary, provides ideal conditions for vine growth. The vines are, on average, 35 years old. The estate has 44 hectares of vines in Margaux, 5 in Haut-Medoc and 10 in Bordeaux Superieur.

Chateau d’Issan has a long history dating back to the 12th century when it was a fiefdom with the name of La Mothe-Cantenac. It already had an established reputation long before the 1855 classification, reportedly served at the wedding of Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henri Plantagenet, future King of England, on 18th May 1152.

The estate has been handed down from generation to generation through inheritance and marriage until from 1575 onwards, it has been owned by five generations of the Essenault family who contracted their name and renamed the property “Issan”.

Chateau d’Issan expresses the exquisite bouquet so characteristic of Margaux, and stands out for its suppleness, subtlety, elegance and long aging potential.

The wine is made from the old vines in the Chateau d’Issan enclosure in the middle of the Margaux appellation. The soil is mainly comprised of surface gravel on a clay subsoil, contributing to optimal ripeness and freshness in the estate’s two grape varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The wine is aged in barrels for 16 to 18 months, half of which are new.

Introducing the 2022 d'Issan, a Bordeaux Blend that hails from the prestigious Margaux region in France. This wine embodies the essence of elegance and sophistication, showcasing the artistry and craftsmanship of the renowned d'Issan estate. With its deep and alluring red color, this wine is visually captivating, instantly drawing you in and setting the stage for an extraordinary tasting experience.

Upon swirling the glass, the aromas of the 2022 d'Issan begin to unfold, revealing a symphony of scents that excite the senses. Sweet berries, burning embers, violets, and a hint of loamy soil intermingle, creating a complex and enticing bouquet. It is a sensory journey that transports you to the picturesque vineyards of Margaux, immersing you in the terroir and history of this esteemed appellation.

On the palate, the 2022 d'Issan showcases its true potential. Medium to full-bodied, with a luscious and layered texture, this wine exudes a velvety smoothness that caresses the palate. The tannins are refined and well-integrated, providing structure and balance to the vibrant fruit flavors. Blackberry, blackcurrant, hazelnut, and cherries dance on the tongue, accompanied by subtle notes of cedar and cocoa. It is an exceptional blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and a perfect balance of Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot.

Renowned critics have already recognized the greatness of the 2022 d'Issan. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate awarded it an impressive score of 95 points, praising its purity and deep core of fruit. James Suckling was equally enamored, awarding it 97 points and highlighting its intensity and bright tannins. Jeff Leve also lauded this vintage, stating that it is undoubtedly the finest d'Issan ever produced.

This exceptional wine is crafted with utmost care and attention to detail. The estate's use of 20-hectoliter tanks allows for precise sub-plot harvesting, ensuring the highest quality fruit selection. The 2022 d'Issan is a testament to the unwavering commitment of the d'Issan estate to produce wines of exceptional caliber.

In conclusion, the 2022 d'Issan is a wine that epitomizes the grace and finesse of Margaux. With its impeccable balance, captivating aromas, and exquisite flavors, it is a wine that will undoubtedly captivate the palates of wine enthusiasts and collectors alike. This is a vintage that will continue to evolve and impress for decades to come.
