Domaine Jamet’s 2023 Côte-Rôtie is a classic, traditionally built Syrah from Ampuis in the Northern Rhône, drawn from a broad patchwork of hillside parcels. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate reports it is “a blend of 17 lieux-dits,” while the producer typically works across roughly twenty small plots spanning both the Côte Brune and Côte Blonde sectors. The estate is known for an artisanal approach and steep, terraced vineyards farmed under lutte raisonnée.

Winemaking details emphasize restraint and structure rather than makeup. Jamet relies heavily on stems: Decanter notes “virtually all whole bunches this year,” and Wine Advocate specifies “fermented with 100% whole clusters.” Elevage is long and measured: Wine Advocate cites “20 months in barriques, including 10% new oak,” while the domaine commonly matures the wine for about 22 months with a low proportion of new wood. Jeb Dunnuck adds that the 2023 “saw a lot of stem inclusion and is aging primarily in older demi-muids.”

The critical reception is notably strong. Decanter’s 98-point provisional assessment stands out as an excellent review, based on a barrel tasting, concluding that “overall, this is looking like a fresh, elegant vintage.” Vinous (96 points, 94–96) calls the component lots “magnificent samples” that “hint at yet another textbook Côte-Rôtie.” Dunnuck (96 points, 94–96) describes “rich red and black fruits, lots of minerality, pepper, and violets,” calling it “a focused, masculine effort” with a “fresh, crunchy, yet still ripe style.”

In bottle, Wine Spectator (95) finds it “harmonious and pure,” with “red currant, incense and pretty violet” over a “chalky, fine mineral foundation,” finishing vibrant; it suggests drinking “now through 2040.” Wine Advocate’s 95+ adds a more old-school framing: “precise and ethereal… The finish is long, mineral… This is pure Jamet.”
