In spite of the richness and full body, this is an elegant expression of Gigondas, thanks to the expertly crafted tannins. Beautiful creamy texture in the long, complete finish. There's plenty of spice, but it’s like a...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, October 2025

( 92+ points) Crafted from equal parts estate-grown and purchased fruit, the 2023 Gigondas La Gille reveals a gourmand, subtly reductive bouquet of spices, dark wild berries and garrigue. Medium- to full-bodied, juicy and...

Full and lush, made with 80% Grenache whose ripeness clearly shows. Brandied cherries and well-integrated wood spice on the nose, then superripe stone fruits on the palate, cherries especially, but also including hints of...

Famille Perrin’s Gigondas “La Gille” 2023 is a Grenache-led red from the Gigondas AOC in France’s Southern Rhône. The wine comes from vineyards on a mix of limestone, marl, and notably sandy “safres” soils, a terroir the producer links to a more supple, aromatic style. Perrin also notes that some Grenache vines in these sandy parcels are pre-phylloxera—an uncommon detail in the region that underscores the historic nature of the source material. Grapes are reported as hand harvested, and the wine is aged partly in large oak foudres and partly in smaller barriques.

In the glass, reviewers consistently emphasize that this is Gigondas with polish. James Suckling delivers an excellent 94-point score, calling it “an elegant expression of Gigondas” despite its “richness and full body,” and praising “expertly crafted tannins” and a “beautiful creamy texture in the long, complete finish.” He also highlights the wine’s seasoning, noting, “There’s plenty of spice, but it’s like a tapestry of colors rather than a blast of heat,” and concludes with straightforward guidance: “Drink or hold.”

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate rates it 92+ points, another strong result, and provides the clearest technical snapshot of the blend: “a stunning blend of 90% Grenache Noir and 10% Syrah,” reviewed by Yohan Castaing. He describes a “gourmand, subtly reductive bouquet of spices, dark wild berries and garrigue,” followed by a palate that is “medium- to full-bodied, juicy and sappy,” with “velvety tannins” and a “long, penetrating finish.” He also notes the production mix: “equal parts estate-grown and purchased fruit.”

Overall, La Gille 2023 reads as a modern, well-managed Gigondas—full-bodied but controlled, spice-forward without harshness, and built around ripe fruit, garrigue character, and confident tannin management.
