The 2023 Siran is a Bordeaux Blend from the Margaux sub-region of Bordeaux, France. This red wine, produced by Siran, is sealed with a cork closure. The wine has received a range of reviews, with scores between 92 and 95 points.
James Suckling awarded the 2023 Siran 95 points, noting, "Wow. This is really well done with plenty of al-dente fruit character, bright acidity and firm, fine tannins that are already well integrated. Medium-bodied. Crunchy." (jamessuckling.com, 4/22/2024).
Neal Martin from Vinous gave it a score of 94 points, stating, "The 2023 Siran, picked September 11 to 29, has a well-defined bouquet that is not as complex as the previous vintage. It is focused and delineated, with black fruit mixed with graphite and melted tar, almost Saint-Julien in style. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, quite minerally and lively without the depth of the 2022, yet rather elegant and refined on the finish. This constitutes a very gracious Margaux and as I tried second and third bottles towards the end of my trip, it just seemed to get better and better." (Vinous, 4/29/2024).
Jane Anson, who also rated the wine 94 points, described it as "An enjoyably sculpted Siran, plenty of depth to the tannins, balanced, juicy and inky, with crushed pure liquorice root, blueberry and cassis pastille, rose petals and mint. This is delicious, with tension and a mouthwatering finish, great stuff from owner Edouard Miailhe and winemaker Marjolaine Defrance. 35% new oak for ageing. A buy." (janeanson.com, 4/10/2024).
Jeff Leve from The Wine Cellar Insider gave it a score range of 91-93 points, describing it as "Soft, lush, lifted, and vibrant, the red and black fruits are sweet, ripe, juicy, and long. There is concentration, and energy here, with a silky edge to the ripe, polished berries in the finish. Drink from 2028-2045." (TheWineCellarInsider.com, 5/4/2024).
Jeb Dunnuck rated the wine 94 points, mentioning, "Ripe currants, mulberries, spicy oak, and savory flower notes are just some of the nuances in the 2023 Château Siran, a medium to full-bodied, pure, balanced Margaux that has some background smoky oak, ripe yet certainly present tannins, and outstanding length. Its purity of fruit is top-notch." (jebdunnuck.com, 5/8/2024).
Lisa Perrotti-Brown from The Wine Independent gave it a score range of 90-92+ points, highlighting, "The 2023 Siran is deep garnet-purple in color. It jumps from the glass with classic notes of cassis, redcurrant jelly, and cedar, followed by suggestions of dried herbs, tobacco, and stewed tea. The medium-bodied palate is bright and refreshing, with lightly chewy tannins and an herbal lift on the finish." (The Wine Independent, 5/8/2024).
Finally, Decanter rated it 92 points, noting, "Ripe blackberry and cassis aromas with tar introduce a palate of both brambly red and juicy plum, with deft, if slightly tart, tannin. Tasted twice, one sample showed steelier tannin than the other, but both exhibited a more linear rather than broad texture and approach to the medium finish. While I like the precision, there was something a bit more homespun about this fine wine, when compared to some of its Margaux peers, but barrel ageing should lend more palate depth." (Decanter, 4/18/2024).
The 2023 Siran offers a balanced and refined experience, characterized by ripe fruit, firm tannins, and a medium-bodied structure. It appears to have strong aging potential, with several reviewers noting its elegance and depth.
