jamessuckling.com, May 2025

Fresh and floral but with white pepper and a noticeably assertive smoky minerality. Light-bodied, this shines with silky texture and zesty yet integrated acidity. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Decanter, April 2024

Marco de Grazia's basic Etna Bianco for me underlines the promise of the 2024 vintage on the volcano. Dripping in salinity and with ripe aromas of pineapple, white peach and jasmine, it vibrates with energy. Citrus zest...

Vinous, May 2025

A whiff of lemon oil mixes with sweet mint and crushed rocks as the 2024 Etna Bianco opens in the glass. This is juicy and playful in feel with ripe melon and a cascade of inner florals that swirl throughout. It leaves a...

Clean-cut and mineral-driven, this is lightly waxy in texture, with flavors of poached apricot and persimmon gliding across the palate. Accents of chamomile, blanched almond, preserved lemon and thyme play on the...

Tenuta delle Terre Nere’s Etna Bianco 2024 is a white Etna DOC from Sicily, built around Carricante with supporting native varieties including Catarratto, Grecanico and Inzolia. Fruit comes from high-elevation volcanic sites on Mount Etna—generally 600–900 meters—an important contributor to the wine’s tension and mineral profile. The estate has produced this cuvée since 2005 and works with organically grown grapes, a point also noted by James Suckling.

In 2024, spring rains on Etna created pressure from downy mildew and reduced yields in some areas, but the finished wine reads as bright and energetic in multiple reports. Vinous captures the opening aromatics as “a whiff of lemon oil…sweet mint and crushed rocks,” and describes a palate that’s “juicy and playful…with ripe melon” and “a cascade of inner florals,” finishing with “a salty sensation…on the wickedly fresh finish” (Eric Guido, Vinous).

Decanter’s 92-point review is an early standout, calling it “dripping in salinity” with “ripe aromas of pineapple, white peach and jasmine,” adding that it “vibrates with energy” and delivers a “long, bright finish.” Decanter goes further, labeling it “Superb – and excellent value!”—one of the wine’s clearest endorsements.

James Suckling is more emphatic still with 94 points—an excellent review—highlighting “white pepper” and “a noticeably assertive smoky minerality,” alongside a “silky texture and zesty yet integrated acidity,” concluding, “Drink or hold.”

Wine Spectator (90 points) frames it as “clean-cut and mineral-driven,” “lightly waxy in texture,” with flavors moving from “poached apricot and persimmon” to “chamomile, blanched almond, preserved lemon and thyme,” and recommends drinking “now through 2034.” Spectator also reports production at 7,500 cases, with 850 cases imported.
