(94-97+ points) Strong and powerful with serious, deep, intense and peppery fruit this is a full-bodied and well made wine. It is deep, long, spicy, smoky and classic with multiple layers of cassis and must be considered...

Vinous, April 2026

(95-97 points) The 2025 Domaine de Chevalier is a total stunner. The oak imprint is a bit strong, but the 2025 possesses notable richness and textural depth to handle it all. Signature red-toned fruit and floral...

Aromas of plum, raspberry, loam and wet stone minerality suggest the pedigree beneath. The palate is decidedly structured, almost reminiscent of grape skins tasted at harvest, with a firm, tightly wound tannic frame. A...

Olivier Bernard has this to say about his red wines: “Domaine de Chevalier rouge has good structure and a great deal of finesse, complexity, and aging potential – which does not exclude a smooth, fruity quality that makes it enjoyable in its youth. Always balanced, never aggressive, power is by no means the priority...”

Assistant General Manager, Rémi Edange adds: “Chevalier’s red wines are well-structured with round, very fine, tight-knit tannin... They are tremendously elegant and distinguished with a very long aftertaste and more delicacy than power...”

The 2025 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge is the flagship red from this Grand Cru Classé de Graves estate in Pessac-Léognan, long known for producing refined, age-worthy wines. In 2025, the blend is consistently reported as Cabernet Sauvignon-led—most reviewers cite 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot—though Jeff Leve (The Wine Cellar Insider) also notes a small addition of Cabernet Franc in his sample.

Critical reception is notably strong across the board, with several excellent reviews. James Suckling awards an outstanding 97–98 points, highlighting “plenty of berry, chocolate, walnut and bark aromas” and calling the palate “creamy and polished…with a long and rather endless finish.” Antonio Galloni (Vinous) is similarly enthusiastic at 95–97 points, calling it “a total stunner,” with “signature red-toned fruit and floral overtones” on a “layered, expansive close,” while noting that “the oak imprint is a bit strong” at this stage.

Multiple tasters focus on the wine’s structure and freshness. Decanter (Panos Kakaviatos, 95) describes “plum, raspberry, loam and wet stone minerality,” alongside a “firm, tightly wound tannic frame,” concluding that it “should harmonise with élevage.” Jane Anson (94) likewise praises “precision and clarity,” pointing to “the grip of the vintage,” but adding confidence in its ability to “widen and deepen over ageing.”

Technical details point to a more classically proportioned Chevalier: several sources cite 12.5% alcohol and pH 3.71, with yields around 34–35 hl/ha. Wine Advocate (93–95) notes the wine was harvested September 11–26, “an unusually early finish,” and finds it “dense and deep…built around a substantial chassis of tannins.”

Best of all, the wine’s early promise is paired with patience: The Wine Independent says it “must be considered a success for the vintage” and suggests it will benefit from “4–5 years of bottle age.”
