Spottswoode’s 2025 Sauvignon Blanc continues the St. Helena estate’s long-running program with the variety—it has been produced annually since 1984—while marking a sustainability milestone. According to the winery, 2025 is the first vintage made entirely from organically farmed grapes across both the Spottswoode Estate and its partner, family-farmed vineyard sources (which can include sites outside Napa, such as Sonoma County). The wine is built through small-lot fermentations in a deliberately varied set of vessels—French oak, stainless steel, concrete, ceramic cuves, and clay amphorae—aimed at layering texture without losing freshness.

The vintage conditions, as described by Spottswoode, were notably even: a wet winter followed by a mostly dry spring and a moderate summer. Harvest ran “from August 21 through mid-September” in what the estate characterizes as calm, unhurried conditions, calling the year “truly special” for balance and poise.

Critics broadly agree the 2025 is a polished, aromatic example. James Suckling awarded an excellent 95 points, noting “a lovely perfume and floral edge” with aromas including “jasmine, apple blossom, candied lime, gooseberry, honeysuckle and green melon.” He describes a “medium-bodied” palate with “generosity cut through by vibrant acidity and tension underneath the fruit and minerals,” and recommends, “Drink now.”

Wine Spectator also rated it strongly at 93 points, calling it “stylish,” with herbal lift—“tarragon and verbena notes”—framing “Key lime, yellow plum and green almond flavors.” The magazine highlights its precision, adding that it “offers a fresh, delineated finish,” and suggests a broader window than Suckling: “Drink now through 2031.”

Overall, the 2025 reads as a classically structured, citrus-and-floral Sauvignon Blanc with enough depth and grip to reward near-term drinking and short- to mid-term cellaring.
