Champagne Pommery’s Apanage Blanc de Blancs is the house’s non-vintage, 100% Chardonnay Champagne, positioned as a higher-tier cuvée within the Apanage range. Pommery, based in Reims and long associated with an elegant, fresh style, aims here for what the producer describes as “delicacy, elegance and freshness,” leaning into Chardonnay’s brightness and the region’s chalk-influenced profile. Official information notes the blend draws on Chardonnay from a selection of about 17 villages around the Montagne de Reims, building complexity through varied sources rather than a single-cru expression.

In the glass, this is a Chardonnay-first Champagne that keeps its lines clean and its textures measured. James Suckling’s Senior Editor Aldo Fiordelli points to a “restrained, slightly herbal nose,” then “an almost exotic ripe-fruit character,” with “broom flowers and chalky minerality.” On the palate, he highlights “precise bubbles… elegant, crisp and refreshing acidity,” and a “light-bodied and smooth” finish. That combination—fine mousse, brisk acidity, and mineral detail—fits the Pommery reputation for finesse more than power.

One useful technical detail comes directly from Suckling’s note: it’s a multi-vintage blend of 2014, 2016, and 2018 base wines, and Fiordelli’s guidance is to “Drink now,” suggesting it is already in a good place for current enjoyment.

Critical reception has been notably strong across outlets, including an excellent 95/100 from *Decanter*, alongside other 90+ assessments reported for the cuvée. Suckling’s more recent review lands at 91 points, framing this bottling as a polished, refreshing Blanc de Blancs that prioritizes precision, chalky lift, and drinkability.
