"My favorite wine has typically been the Ciabot Mentin Ginestra…[it] was one of the first Barolos that really captivated my attention and for me it remains this producer’s most representative wine." - Antonio Galloni

The first name that comes to mind when considering the eastern slopes of Monforte d’Alba in Barolo is unquestionably Ginestra, and for no other reason than this strip of land has produced some of the very best and recognized wines of the last three decades.

In the early 1980’s, well ahead of his game, the young Domenico Clerico saw great potential in these slopes and purchased a prime southeast exposed portion at the top of the Ginestra cru, which would soon produce his Ciabot Mentin Barolo.

Today we have Clerico's 2011 bottling from this famed site, a wine that's "impressive on many levels" and a sure-fire winner for the Barolo enthusiast!

Where the structured 2010s necessarily makes us wait, the charm of the 2011 Barolos give us plenty of choices for drinking now and over the subsequent years. “The 2011 Barolos continue to surprise. Radiant, open, and already quite expressive, the 2011s show terrific potential" (AG).

Domenico Clerico consistently delivers high quality, nuanced, terroir-driven wines and is often mentioned in the same sentence with Barolo greats like Sandrone, Scavino, Altare, and Voerzio. As Galloni notes, "Few producers' wines have given me as much pleasure over the years…Clerico has been turning out spectacular Barolos since the mid-1980s. I find a spirituality and character in these wines that puts them in a class with few peers.”

"The personalities of the truly great sites are very much alive in the best 2011s” (AG) and that’s readily apparent with Clerico’s Ciabot Mentin. Great producer, great vineyard, great price – add this “profound and meaningful” Barolo to your collection now! Cheers!
