"The Estate Cabernet Sauvignon remains one of California's most remarkable Cabernets. I have been following it since the early seventies, and even the most difficult vintages are still drinking beautifully." - Robert Parker
If any estate should serve as the benchmark in California, Chateau Montelena would be the one. For over 30 years they have produced some of the most classic and long-lived Cabernet in Napa. Montelena holds an irrevocable place in California history as one of the winning wines at the Judgement of Paris in 1976. Today the Barrett family continue to shepherd this iconic winery forward, with Parker calling their Cabernet the “equivalent to buying blue chip stock” thanks to decades of potential they provide vintage after vintage.
This beautiful bottle of Estate Cabernet Sauvignon from the idyllic 2012 vintage is “shaping up to be a jewel of a wine” according to Galloni, who has praised Chateau Montelena for making “some of the most attractive, classically built Napa Valley Cabernets." 2012 was the start of a string of vintages in Napa that left our cup running over, and old standards can easily hold a flame to the illustrious ‘cult’ Cabernet. This is old-school style California - yes, it has the richness, and ripeness we love, but a more traditional sense of proportion and personality is all there too in part thanks to what Parker called “outstanding purity and balance”.
You can’t go wrong with Chateau Montelena and Cabernet purists would be remiss for not having some of this in their cellar. This will go head to head with any of the other top names from Napa and we've got it for you today at a terrific price. Cheers!
