"...this superb estate has become one of my favorite estates in Chateauneuf du Pape...If you haven’t discovered Saint-Prefert and the brilliant winemaker Isabel Ferrando, it’s about time!" - Robert Parker
Critics have had nothing but praise for Saint Prefert, with Robert Parker and Jeb Dunnuck both listing it as one of their "favorite estates" in Châteauneuf du Pape and the Wine Spectator labeling it a "reference point" producer for the region. Any lover of great Châteauneuf du Pape will agree; Saint Prefert's fresh and modern takes on Châteauneuf are made in a romantic, brilliant style that still stay true to terroir. Today we've got this "fine and polished" effort for the best price around!
The 2012s are "classic in style and loaded with Provençal charm" and this ‘Classique’ bottling shows Grenache at its finest in a “ripe, layered and seamless style” (WA) with “flamboyant aromas of ripe red berries, incense, potpourri and minerals” (VM). We tasted a bottle this month, and 5 years past the vintage this wine is rocking right now!
Although they've already notched a RP100-point wine their 2007 'Giraud' bottling, and St Prefert has clearly caught on with the critics, the youth of the domaine is certainly to our advantage as consumers as the prices are still reasonable. The Rhone is home of some of the most exciting and adventurous winemakers in France, and this is definitely a producer to watch. At this excellent price, this is a terrific red to grab by the case! Cheers!
