2012 Domaine LaFage Le Vignon Cotes du Roussillon
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale $39.94 (reg. $54.94)
Another mind-blowing Cotes du Roussillon from Domaine LaFage has just come in and it is a knockout Rhone-inspired blend that will easily hold its own against more well-known Chateauneuf du Pape. Coming in under $40 and earning 95-points from the Wine Advocate, the 2012 ‘Le Vignon’ another example of why LaFage arguably has the best QPR in all of France. JJ Buckley is the only US retailer to carry any vintage of this exceptional cuvée, one that has been described as an “incredible, hedonistic beauty...that readers shouldn't miss” by the Wine Advocate, and you will want to stock up on this while quantities last.
Domaine LaFage has a mind-boggling array of vineyards in the Cotes du Roussillon and a great number of them are old-vine plantings from highly distinctive terroirs that the international market is only just beginning to understand. Le Vignon, "the top wine of the estate" (WA), is one of LaFage’s smaller cuvées with only 5-7 small barrels made every year from 70+ year old vines in Aspres. Featuring broad gentle slopes and valleys from the Mediterranean to the Pyrenees, the sun-drenched Aspres region is known for producing some of most complex wines in the Roussillon and as interest in the broader region has increased, Aspres has emerged as one of the top subzones.
The 2012 Le Vignon has rich, ripe aromas of berries, sagebrush, and spice, with a floral and mineral-tinged palate. We are all in on Domaine LaFage, and if you love full-throttled, complex Rhone blends, be it from France or California, you will want this producer in your cellar! Cheers!
