"one of the most historic vineyards in Santa Barbara and still one of the very best." - Antonio Galloni
Here's a vibrant, polished wine from one of the best California Pinot vintages in recent memory. Lutum is a newer project sourcing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Santa Barbara area’s best and oldest sites, including the oldest in the Santa Rita Hills, Sanford & Benedict. Planted in 1971, Sanford & Benedict wines are renowned for their focused, characterful Pinot Noir, and we have Lutum’s “rocking” 2012 bottling for easily the lowest price around – in fact, you won’t find any vintages of this low production gem for less than $50!
Lutum’s 2012 is classic Santa Rita Hills with vibrant notes of cranberry and pomegranate giving much-needed lift for darker baking spice and black raspberry flavors. Jeb Dunnuck of the Wine Advocate hails this wine as his “favorite in the line" and it was a hit in our tasting room as well!
2012 was a near-perfect growing season across the board for California wine, but notably "an outstanding vintage for Santa Barbara County,” per the Wine Advocate. Santa Barbara’s cooler climate turned out Pinot Noirs that were universally voluptuous and silky without losing their sense of structure.
Antonio Galloni suggests, "there has never been a better time to explore Santa Barbara County and all of its dimension" and Lutum’s outstanding 2012 Sanford & Benedict Pinot Noir is a great place to start. A small production gem (only 450 cases made), perfect vintage, prestigious vineyard, critical acclaim and the best price makes for a slam dunk deal! Cheers!
