If you’re a Bordeaux enthusiast and haven’t yet heard of Tour Saint Christophe yet, pay attention! This is an incredibly well-situated Saint Émilion Grand Cru property whose wine is, at its current price, an absolute steal and we've got their 2013 effort for the best price around.
Tour Saint Christophe has been making serious waves as of late. Robert Parker calls it “a property to keep an eye on”, and its critics’ scores just keep rising. Our recent offer of the estate’s 2014 vintage sold out almost immediately. If you missed that – or you’re already running low – here’s your chance to stock up on the highly-rated 2013.
The estate’s situation is virtually perfect. Next door to Barde Haut, the vineyard’s sloped terraces overlook Troplong Mondot and La Mondotte. It’s clear that proprietor Peter Kwok chooses his sites wisely, though he doesn’t stop with the vines. Winemaker at Tour Saint Christophe – and all of Kwok’s estates – is Jean-Christophe Meyrou, best known for his outstanding work at Pomerol royalty Le Gay and La Violette. Not one to do things by halves, Kwok has also enlisted Michel Rolland as his consultant.
2013 was a difficult vintage in Bordeaux, but nobody seemed to tell the team at Tour Saint Christophe. Per Suckling, Meyrou and his team crafted “a refined and pretty wine for the vintage." Per Parker, “the wine is well-made and shows plenty of fruit” and “it is made in an up-front, consumer-friendly, charming style...".
In an incredibly short period of time, Tour Saint Christophe has transformed into a bona fide star. If you’re only now catching on to this hidden gem, now is the time to get on board. Critical acclaim has been building and TSC is routinely beating higher-priced Grand Cru Classé competition - very soon the demand and price will reflect that. How much longer this will be a sub-$25 wine is anyone's guess, so get in on the ground floor with this stunning 2013. Cheers!
