2013 Collosorbo Brunello di Montalcino
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale: $39.94 (was: $44.94)
Collosorbo is one of our go-to producers for charming Brunello with both immediate and long-term appeal thanks to its impeccable south-facing estate in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, one of the most desirable sub-zones in Montalcino. With two centuries of history in Tuscany, the Ciacci family is delivering some pretty stunning value at Collosorbo, as evidenced by today’s sub-$40, 95-point Brunello!
Sangiovese may thrive throughout central Italy, but Montalcino’s highly complex soils make it the best region for the finicky grape. All three of Montalcino’s soil types (red clay, rocky galestro, and sandy limestone) are showcased on the Collosorbo vineyard, leading to a classic Brunello that is at once well-structured and long-finishing but also layered with gorgeous fruit.
The 2013 vintage was a great year for delicious and well-balanced Brunelli, and this is a “very attractive wine of impeccable balance” (Vinous) that can be opened today and enjoyed with a decant or cellared for the next 10+ years. Enjoy with classic Tuscan charcuterie, wild boar ragù or just a big plate of pasta! Cheers!
