As one of Washington State’s top producers, Delille Cellars’ lineup of Red Mountain grown Bordeaux and Rhone style reds is always tightly allocated, and perhaps none more so than their ‘Grand Ciel’ Cabernet. This state of the art vineyard is a monopole of Delille Cellars, and it is considered “one of the top terroirs in the state” per the Wine Advocate, making this cuvee the WA State equivalent of a Bordeaux classified growth’s grand vin. A “spitting image of a top Pauillac” (Wine Advocate), the 2013 ‘Grand Ciel’ is a powerhouse Cabernet for the cellar, with decades of life ahead!

Winemaker and vineyard manager Chris Upchurch co-founded Delille Cellars in the early 1990s, and alongside Quilceda Creek and Leonetti, it has been one of the definitive artisanal producers in Washington. While Upchurch sources fruit from some pretty incredible vineyards, ‘Grand Ciel’ was purpose built to produce top level wine. Developed with the help of Ciel du Cheval’s Jim Holmes, everything from exposure, to clonal selection, and trellising was designed to slow down ripening to increase hang time, resulting in a “full-bodied, seamless and incredibly elegant” Cabernet. Cabernet was “by far the standout” in the 2013 vintage (Wine Advocate) and very little of the ‘Grand Ciel’ is available; we strongly advise collectors of top Cabernet to jump on this one ASAP.

95+ points, Robert Parker Wine Advocate: "A spitting image of a top Pauillac, the 100% Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 Grand Ciel comes from one of the top terroirs in the state, the Grand Ciel Vineyard on Red Mountain. Aged all in new French oak, its offers sensational notes of lead pencil shavings, black currants, campfire, graphite and crushed flowers. Full-bodied, seamless and incredibly elegant, yet with serious density and power, it's surprisingly approachable given its polished tannin and overall balance, yet I've no doubt it will have 2-3 decades of overall longevity." - Jeb Dunnuck

95 points, James Suckling: "Very pure, focused cabernet with bright cassis and purple-cherry aromas. Gentle mint and herbal notes, too. The palate has an elegant edge of bright, lithe and juicy cassis as well as cherries. Slick, balanced, supreme expression of vineyard here."
