2013 Fritz Haag Riesling Auslese Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr 375ml
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale $19.94 (reg. $23.94)
German Riesling offers some of the best quality to price ratios in the world and this is a prime example - a highly rated effort from a storied producer that will easily age for decades for a remarkable price!
Fritz Haag is one of the most well respected wine names in Germany. These Rieslings are the true essence of the Mosel. The Haag family has been growing on the steep slopes of one of the most spectacular and well regarded vineyards on the Mosel - Brauneberger Juffer - for over four centuries. And this is the flagship "Sundial" parcel within the Brauneberger Juffer vineyard.
Given the harsh conditions these vines face, the yields are tiny and the resulting wines are extremely concentrated, complex and long lived - hands down among the best in Germany.
Yet when you compare scores, price, and production, there is unparalleled value here. Think of picking up a 1er Cru Burgundy with critical acclaim across the board for under $20 per half bottle – it just does not happen!
While this viscerally thrilling, Riesling will impress now with all its youthful richness, it will age gracefully for the next 20 years. At this terrific price (the lowest of any vintage), it's well worth stocking up to chart its evolution for years to come. Cheers!
