"Some of the finest wines of Napa Valley are emerging from Robert Keenan Winery." - Robert Parker
The Keenan estate is definitely part of the old-guard of Napa Valley, having been under vine since the 1800s. Since the Keenans arrived, quality has been on a steady uptick, with Michael Keenan propelling it to new heights. Today, this Spring Mountain institution is “making the best wine of its 25-year history” and “on a real high-quality roll” (Parker). With the greatest vintage in recent history lying at their feet, Keenan has been able to put this history to the test, and across the board the results are astounding. The estate Cabernet Franc is an extremely pretty and balanced expression showing classic mountain characteristics. It’s a “delicate and understated” (Galloni) wine with a “winning personality” that you are sure to fall in love with.
Galloni declared the 2013 vintage a “modern-day classic” while Parker called it a “classic” year of “power, intensity and equilibrium.” In 2013, old-school standouts like Keenan proved that the best can still be accessible and affordable, and this 2013 is “one of Napa Valley’s most successful Cabernet Franc” according to Parker, with glorious notes of “blueberry and raspberry fruit interwoven with spring flowers...intense, but elegant” (94pts). This is real mountain fruit from up on Spring Mountain, and it shows.
The 2013 is yet another example of why wineries like Keenan can still surprise with Napa Valley wine that is both exceptionally high quality and unpretentious. This is a wine for enjoying with friends and family over the next ten years. Cheers!
