Paso Robles is one of the fastest growing wine regions in the US, and there is no shortage of new wineries popping up every year. But it takes a certain type of experience, passion, and connection to the land to succeed. Fortunately, Turtle Creek proprietor Don Burns has all of the above, plus a good deal of incredible fruit from the James Berry Vineyard (which Saxum made famous with their 100pt 2007). A classic blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre, the 2013 Willow’s Cuvee is a Paso Robles classic sure to wow nearly any palate, and is a must-buy if you’re set on finding the next Saxum (before the word gets out). The best part is that we have it available today for the best price around!
While still a relatively new venture, Don Burns is certainly no newcomer to Paso Robles, having grown up in the area with longtime friend Justin Smith, of Saxum Vineyards. Burns founded Turtle Rock after working with Saxum and it has already proven to be extraordinary, leaving Galloni “deeply impressed” and the rest of us wondering if this might the next great cult Paso winery. There is still plenty of room in California for sleeper hits, and the quality of Don Burns’ Rhone ranger blends is certainly up to it, with this 2013 Willow Cuvee getting 94pts from the Wine Advocate, describing it as a “sexy, full-bodied, pleasure-bent beauty.”
Very little of this is produced, and if the critical acclaim they've received in a brief period of time is any indication, prices won't stay this low forever, so get in on the ground floor on this one at a steal as this is sure to go fast! Cheers!
