2014 Casanova di Neri 'Irrosso di Casanova di Neri'
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale $16.94 (reg. $23.94)
Casanova di Neri’s 'Irrosso' is a stunning everyday rosso from one of Tuscany’s top producers of Brunello di Montalcino. This 'baby brunello' uses the very same estate grown Sangiovese from Casanova di Neri’s 100-point Tenuta Nuova Brunello at only a tiny fraction of that lauded bottle’s price! Showing classic Tuscan notes of wild berries, anise, and earth, this is a food-friendly rosso from one of Montalcino’s most celebrated producers.
Giacomo Neri is consistently acclaimed as one of Tuscany’s greatest producers of Sangiovese, with multiple 100-point scores for both his estate Brunello Tenuta Nuova, and the single vineyard Cerretalto Brunello. Considered “one of the shining stars of Montalcino” by the Wine Advocate, and “one of the masters of Brunello” by James Suckling, Neri has achieved a stunning level of consistency, producing gorgeous representations of Tuscany’s greatest wines in every vintage.
Today’s IrRosso is as part of the young Sant’antimo DOC that has given winemakers license to experiment in their own way. Neri blends their Montalcino grown Sangiovese with the local Tuscan grape Colorino, to amp up the structure and deepen the beautiful velvet ruby color. This is a classic old school Tuscan blend, an everyday quaff that pairs perfectly with so many hearty meals but can also be tasty on its own! At a ridiculously attractive price of $16.94, it’s hard to believe that this is honest to goodness barrel-aged Sangiovese from a top Brunello vineyard. This is the perfect house wine for winter, so stock up! Cheers!
