2014 Domaine Drouhin Pinot Noir Roserock
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale $28.94 (reg. $34.94)
From one of Oregon’s top vineyards in the Eola-Amity Hills, this Roserock Pinot Noir is Domaine Drouhin’s first wine from the legendary sub-zone within the Willamette Valley, and their first since purchasing this stellar property. For a sub-$30, 94pt Pinot Noir from one of Oregon's, and Burgundy’s, leading wineries, you simply cannot beat Drouhin’s Roserock!
The 2014 Roserock may be Drouhin’s first foray into the Eola-Amity Hills, a sub-AVA known for Pinot Noir of extraordinary depth and power, but they had purchased fruit from the vineyard before, so when the opportunity to buy came up they jumped. Now the 2014 Roserock combines the grip and body Eola-Amity is known for with Drouhin’s trademark elegance, showing “intensity and balanced and beautiful fruit. Medium-to full-bodied, silky and beautiful. A really velvety and round texture” (JS94pts).
Oregon has been compared to Burgundy for decades thanks to the potential to produce world class Pinot Noir with the depth, perfume, and age ability that matches its French counterpart. But nothing gave quite as much credibility to that comparison as Drouhin going all in on the region in the 1980s. For thirty years now the Oregon based Domaine Drouhin has been in lockstep with the region’s rise in esteem, embracing the Willamette Valley’s distinctive character and terroir.
Like Drouhin’s many renowned village level Burgundy wines, this Roserock Pinot will offer delightful drinking for the next decade, but should be beautiful today too! Cheers!
