2014 Joseph Drouhin Chambolle Musigny
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale: $59.94 (was: $74.94)
Thanks to Drouhin’s extraordinary array of biodynamically farmed vineyards in Burgundy, today’s Chambolle-Musigny is “high class villages” (Gilman) available for the lowest price in the U.S.! Drouhin’s villages wines are over-achievers in every vintage, and 2014 is a perfect year for long-time Burgundy aficionados. Chambolle-Musginy is well loved for its hidden sense of power behind a refined and elegant perfume, and Drouhin’s expression is a perennial standout. The 2014 is complex and fresh, called a “terrific Chambolle” by Burghound, and praised as “pure, full-bodied and very focused” by John Gilman of View From the Cellar.
2014 was an excellent vintage for the Cote de Nuits, and compared to the ripe and full bodied 2015s, this is a vintage of “freshness, balance, terroir expression and energy” per the Wine Advocate. This Chambolle saw only 20% new oak, so these qualities shine through. Drouhin is well known for following rigidly high standards at every step in the winemaking process and were well placed to take advantage of the long, cool growing season. Entirely biodynamic, they maintain their own stock of massal selections, so cuttings from the most well adapted vines in each cru are used whenever they replant.
Only a few cases are available of this “generous and succulent” Chambolle, so contact us ASAP to secure a few bottles and enjoy with classic Fall dishes like duck or roast turkey! Cheers!
