2014 Maison L'Envoye Pinot Noir 'The Attaché'
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale $24.94 (reg. $29.94)
The name ‘Maison L’Envoye’ might evoke the old world, but this exciting new project from Evening Land founder Mark Tarlov is 100% Oregon through and through. Tarlov’s latest step in a search for that sweet spot between quality and value in Oregon Pinot Noir (a rarity), Maison L’Envoye’s The Attaché is one of the best Pinot Noirs at this price point that we’ve tried, and now we are able to offer it for only $24.94, easily the best price around, and a pretty incredible deal for an elegant, Burgundian Pinot like this.
2014 was a hit in Oregon, and Wine Spectator rated the vintage 96pt overall thanks to the extraordinary depth of fruit and quality across the board. You can imagine what a Vosne Romanee winemaker like L’Envoye’s Louis-Michel Liger-Belair could do with that kind of harvest! The 2014 Attaché is a barrel selection of the best lots coming from the renown Yamhill-Carlton, McMinnville, and Eola-Amity areas and it showcases classic Oregon characteristics of “powerful red berry and Asian spice aromas, along with suggestions of smoky minerals and incense” (Vinous 93pts).
Joining forces with Liger-Belair, a consultant who had a not-so-humble start working his family’s parcel of La Romanée, Mark Tarlov and his team has set about to deliver finesse-driven offerings "with an emphasis on vibrancy rather than weight" per Vinous. And, "speaking of Burgundy, compared to the prices being asked for those wines today, Oregon’s best Pinots are delivering astounding value," which is certainly the case here!
For an unbeatable price, you'll want to stock up on this "terrific" value while quantities last. Cheers!
