"The Insignia cuvee has been one of Napa’s great Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines since its inception in 1974." - Robert Parker
If there is one elite Napa red that we look forward to the most in top vintages, it’s Joseph Phelps' ‘Insignia.’ A perennial favorite and California icon, Insignia has been one of Napa’s finest Bordeaux blends since the 1974 debut, making it one of California’s true blue chips. This legendary Cabernet blend has 30+ years of aging potential in the lightest of vintages, and the 2014 looks poised to easily go that long. The critics certainly seem to agree: “another magnificent wine from Joseph Phelps” (Galloni), “It is another beauty” (Parker), and “Great wine” (Suckling).
Since the beginning, Joseph Phelps was adamant that a blend could outperform a single varietal year after year. With 40+ years of experience blending across their estate vineyards in the Valley, the team at Joseph Phelps continues to prove the value of the proprietary blend. The 2014 Insignia is made up of 87% Cabernet, 9% Petit Verdot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Malbec from estate holdings in some of Napa’s finest terroirs. The decision to cut Merlot in 2014, in part thanks to the stunning performance of Cabernet, means that this is an ‘Insignia’ for the ages.
Regardless of vintage, demand is voracious, and allocations evaporate quickly. Wine Spectator called 2014 a “dream vintage" in Napa, so don’t hesitate to contact us immediately to secure some of the 2014 Insignia in large format for yourself. These are in extremely limited quantity, so first come first served. Cheers!
