The secret has been out on Chilean wine for a few years now, but a 98-point flagship Cabernet from the tiny Maipo Valley is still bound to turn some heads, especially when it's from Chile’s preeminent winery, Concha y Toro.
'Don Melchor' is the flagship Cabernet at Concha, and since 1987, it has been considered “one of Chile’s iconic wines” (Wine Advocate) with a level of pedigree and class that competes with the best Cabernet of Napa, Tuscany, and of course Bordeaux. Over 135 years old, Concha y Toro got its vine cuttings from Bordeaux in the 1800s, pre-phylloxera, and their vineyards in the Andean foothills are a testament to the quality and distinctiveness of South American wine. This is hands-down one of the continent’s must-have collectibles, and the 2015 is easily one of the best they’ve made.
Pretty much all the critics are jumping on board with the 'Don Melchor.' Listed in Wine Spectator's Top 100 no fewer than five times, this expansive 2015 earned their ‘Highly Recommended’ designation alongside ‘Editor’s Choice’ from Wine Enthusiast.
2015 is considered by Concha y Toro’s winemaker to be the best in his lifetime, so collectors of top quality Cabs from Napa to Bordeaux will not want to miss this vintage of Don Melchor. Cheers!
