Critics have called today’s 2016 Clos du Val Cabernet “one of the very finest wines readers will find in this price range” (Vinous) and “a terrific value in Napa” (Dunnuck), and at today’s price we strongly encourage you to stock up on this “rocking Cabernet!”

Clos du Val has been around decades, having been a reliable value oriented producer amidst some of California’s most expensive wineries, but the past decade has seen a raft of changes. With greater emphasis on estate grown fruit and lower production volumes, “focus on quality is up” (Galloni) and the 2016s are a “fabulous set of wines” from “one of the finer vintages” Napa has seen recently. Tony Biagi (Hourglass, Plumpjack) consults, and despite critical praise and their upward trajectory, Clos du Val’s pricing remains outrageously competitive.

This lovely 2016 is a terrific, casual Napa Cab that doesn’t skimp on balance and complexity. You just know with all the improvements going on here that the price can’t stay this good for long, so don’t delay!

92 points, Jeb Dunnuck: "Starting out with the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc, 7% Merlot, and 3% Petit Verdot), it's a rocking Cabernet that should be snatched up by readers looking for a terrific value in Napa Cabernet at the 50 dollar price point. Blue fruits, sappy herbs, some damp earth, and a touch of mint all emerge from this charming, medium to full-bodied, fruit-loaded effort that delivers the goods."

92 points, James Suckling: "Some meaty aromas across ripe blackcurrants, blueberries and gently tarry notes. The palate has a strong core of smoothly grippy tannins and abundant blackcurrants. Give this another year or two. Try from 2020."

91 points, Vinous: "The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate has turned out beautifully. Fresh, vibrant and full of energy, the 2016 shows the contemporary Clos du Val style at its best. Inky blue/purplish berry fruit, lavender, spice new leather and menthol add shades of nuance to this super-attractive, mid-weight Cabernet Sauvignon from Clos du Val. Once again, Clos du Val's Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is one of the very finest wines readers will find in this price range."
