Clos du Val has been around decades, having been a reliable value oriented producer amidst some of California’s most expensive wineries, but the past decade has seen a raft of changes. With greater emphasis on estate grown fruit and lower production volumes, “focus on quality is up” (Galloni) and the 2016s are a “fabulous set of wines” from “one of the finer vintages” Napa has seen recently. Blue fruits, sappy herbs, some damp earth, and a touch of mint all emerge from this charming, medium to full-bodied, fruit-loaded effort that delivers the goods."
