"...the wines from Raymond Usseglio are top-notch and classic in style." - Robert Parker
When it comes to Châteauneuf du Pape, you really can’t go wrong with Raymond Usseglio, especially when it's a double 93-point cuvee from a vintage described as “truly extraordinary” by noted Rhone critic Jeb Dunnuck. This is some top quality juice for under $40, and a terrific starting point for Châteauneuf fans dipping their toes into this can’t-miss vintage. Dunnuck called 2016 “the greatest young vintage from the Southern Rhône Valley I’ve ever tasted” and of Domaine Usseglio’s Châteauneuf du Pape he writes, “this wine shows it.” This is a classic, old-school effort that Decanter sums up nicely: "quintessential Châteauneuf".
Usseglio is the kind of estate we love to offer as the quality is top notch but it manages to fly under the radar and deliver pretty excellent value. Quality here has “continued to improve in just about every vintage” (Dunnuck) while the price stays stable! For those who loved the ripeness of the 2015 vintage, ‘16 has the same level of deliciousness with even more freshness and clarity. Robert Parker has praised the Domaine for their “top-notch and classic” Châteauneuf, and since 2004 Stephane Usseglio has continued to ratchet up the quality. 2016 was a “truly rare vintage” according to Wine Spectator, and the Wine Advocate agreed that the “hype is justified.” Like 2015, this is another vintage where the bar is set extremely high with these well priced classic cuvees, and once again, we’re all in on Usseglio! Cheers!
