2018 Hartford Court Pinot Noir Russian River Valley
by JJ Buckley Fine Wines
On Sale: $27.94 (was: $34.94)*
With a lineup of wines that, “can hold their own against the likes of Marcassin, Aubert, Kongsgaard, etc" (Parker), Hartford Court shows that you don’t need to spend an arm and a leg to get a terroir-focused, hand crafted RRV Pinot Noir. Today’s 2018 isn’t even one of their single vineyard designates, but with 95pts and a sub-$30 price tag, it’s an insane value for that classic Russian River Valley profile, and is a “totally charming, balanced, elegant Pinot Noir that punches way above its weight” (Dunnuck)!
Hartford Court typically releases dozens of single vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnays, and that admirable obsession with terroir has earned them a reputation as “one of the best wineries in Sonoma" (Parker). It also means that their appellation level Pinot Noir draws from an extraordinary array of vineyard sources, which is why it drinks like a much more expensive offering. This “spectacular vintage” for Sonoma Pinot Noir (Vinous) has plenty of crowd-pleasing ripe fruit without losing its sense of place, and the modest use of new French oak adds texture and spice without sacrificing purity.
A 95pt RRV Pinot like this has no business being only $27.94, and it’s not going to last long, so stock up big time and enjoy seriously top shelf Sonoma Pinot any night of the week!
95 points, Jeb Dunnuck: "...classic Russian River notes of mulled cherry and raspberry fruits, cola, spice box, and dried herbs. Medium-bodied, round, and beautifully textured, it's a totally charming, balanced, elegant Pinot Noir that punches way above its weight."
94 points & Editors’ Choice, Wine Enthusiast: "This is an outstanding wine for the price, made from a majority of estate-grown grapes across the appellation...it is designed to be delicious out the gate, with a lush opulence that is soft, broad and supple across the palate. Plummy and brimming in dark cherry and cola, it finishes with moderate structure and baking spice."
