Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé’s 1995 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is a Pinot Noir from the Côte de Nuits, drawn from the domaine’s notable 2.7-hectare holding on the Chambolle-Musigny side of Bonnes-Mares. The site’s position in the southeast corner of the appellation is specifically referenced by Vinous, which notes that despite being on the Chambolle side, the wine shows “much more Morey in character.” Production is small for a grand cru of this stature: Wine Spectator reports “500 cases made.”

The 1995 vintage has earned several excellent reviews, especially from critics revisiting the wine with bottle age. John Gilman (View From The Cellar) scores it 94 points and calls it “pure, full-bodied and very elegant in profile,” highlighting a bouquet of “red and black cherries, vinesmoke,” along with “soil tones… gamebirds and a discreet base of vanillin oak.” He also praises its evolution, citing “melting tannin” and “lovely length and grip.”

Early professional assessments were already strong. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate (tasted from cask) rated it 91–94 points and described it as “spectacularly aromatic,” saying it “explodes out of the glass with spiced apples, dark cherries and cola scents.” Parker emphasized its build, calling it “chewy, powerful, polished and intensely structured,” and suggested a drinking window of 2003–2012+, while cautioning—fairly—that cask samples do not always predict the bottled wine.

Vinous’ Stephen Tanzer awards 93+ points, focusing on structure and longevity: “powerful, penetrating and very closed, with a mineral firmness,” with “noble tannins” and “all the components for long-term aging.”

Wine Spectator’s 91-point review frames it as unusually generous for the year: “silky, beautiful and full-bodied,” with “intense blackberry, cassis and wet earth,” and “more fat and flesh… than in most ’95s,” advising patience “once the firm tannins settle down.”
