With plum, cherry sauce, sage and balsamic spice, the 1999 Brunello di Montalcino is fully mature yet quite impressive. It's broad and darkly floral, entering the palate with textures of pure silk as tart wild berries and spiced orange tones add tension, and salty minerals saturate toward the close. It leaves a tinge of blood orange and inner earth tones to linger, tapering off tense and with a chewy concentration. -- Eric Guido
