This big smoky wine has great richness and a big concentrated structure. The feel is dark solid based on spice new wood and ripe black plums touched with red berries the tannins sheltering beneath. R.V.

This bottle of Cos d'Estournel 2008 is not as scintillating as the one tasted at the property but it remains a great performer. Compared to its peers it is more forward on the nose: quite meaty and savoury some expressive slightly herbaceous Cabernet Franc here that I have not noticed previously. The palate is medium-bodied with good extraction: fleshy and supple in the mouth a lot of creamy new oak and perhaps just lacking the mineralité on the finish that I discerned on other bottles. Very fine indeed although it will improve with bottle age. Tasted January 2012. 93+

This has not changed since I tasted it years ago. Still tight and fruity with cherries, blackberries and spices. Full body, firm tannins and a chew finish. Needs time still or decant three hours in advance.

Closed but promising this is a classic Cos revealing lots of tannin along with damp earth black currant sweet black cherry graphite licorice and truffle characteristics. This medium to full-bodied structured firm broodingly backward impenetrable effort demands 5-6 years of bottle age; it should drink well for 20-25 years. 92+

Complex aromas and flavors of currant raspberry smoke musky dried herbs sexy oak tones and minerals. Rich broad and lush; big rich and sweet but with an edge of acidity giving lift and grip to the middle palate. At once sexy and serious wine finishing with broad horizontal tannins and excellent length.

A tertiary nose of loamy gravelly soil adds complexity. A sweet entry of spicy black cherry and cassis with blackberry in plus concentration expands to a glycerol mid-palate and opulent ripe tannins. The rocky gravelly clay loamy soil is evident early. Excellent! A top wine for Saint Estephe.
