jebdunnuck.com, February 2018

The first vintage made at the new winery, the 2008 Cos d’Estournel is drinking beautifully today, with terrific complexity as well as a silky, polished style on the palate. Made from 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, December 2018

The medium to deep garnet colored 2008 Cos d'Estournel is blended of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Pow! The nose explodes with notes of baked cherries, preserved plums, fried herbs, beef...

Wine Enthusiast, April 2011

This big, smoky wine has great richness and a big, concentrated structure. The feel is dark, solid, based on spice, new wood and ripe black plums touched with red berries, the tannins sheltering beneath.

TheWineCellarInsider.com, October 2019

Very young, as you would expect, this is still a juvenile in terms of its development. Still, if you have a few hours of time to allow it some air, the nose will show vanilla, licorice, black and dark red fruits, smoke...

Vinous, February 2018

The 2008 Cos d’Estournel had one of the most backward, reticent bouquets that I encountered during my tasting. This is so sultry and broody, begrudgingly offering some lovely brambly red fruit mixed with pencil box. The...

This has not changed since I tasted it years ago. Still tight and fruity with cherries, blackberries and spices. Full body, firm tannins and a chew finish. Needs time still or decant three hours in advance.

Neal Martin's Wine Journal, March 2012

93+ Tasted ex-chateau and single blind in Southwold. This bottle of Cos d’Estournel 2008 is not as scintillating as the one tasted at the property, but it remains a great performer. Compared to its peers it is more...

Wine Spectator, January 2016

This has a slight hint of the vintage's crisp, angular feel, but there are impressive layers of fruit here, with a bright mineral edge cutting through the damson plum and red currant notes. This has put on a little bit of...

The 2008 Cos d'Estournel is an exceptional Bordeaux Blend from the esteemed region of St Estephe in Bordeaux, France. With a deep purple core and a fuchsia rim, this red wine is visually stunning. On the nose, it exudes an intoxicating aroma of creme de cassis and kirsch liquor, which is further enhanced by a delicate rose petal perfume. A tertiary note of loamy gravelly soil adds complexity to the bouquet.

Upon the first sip, the 2008 Cos d'Estournel reveals a sweet entry of spicy black cherry and cassis, with hints of blackberry adding to its concentration. As it develops on the palate, a glycerol mid-palate and opulent ripe tannins emerge, providing a luxurious mouthfeel. The rocky gravelly clay loamy soil characteristic of the region is evident early on, adding depth and a sense of place to the wine.

Renowned wine critic Andrew Frieden awarded this vintage a remarkable score of 94, praising its excellence as a top wine for Saint Estephe. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate also gave it a high score of 95, describing it as elegant and earthy/savory in character, with beautifully ripe, grainy tannins and a lingering mineral note on the finish.

Neal Martin's Wine Journal scored it 93+, noting its meaty and savory nose, medium-bodied palate with good extraction, and fleshy, supple mouthfeel. Wine Spectator awarded it 91 points, highlighting its impressive layers of fruit and bright mineral edge. Wine Enthusiast gave it a stellar score of 95, praising its big, smoky character and concentrated structure.

James Suckling rated it 94 points, describing it as a very decadent wine with intense fruit character and a vibrant profile. Jeb Dunnuck also awarded it 95 points, stating that it is drinking beautifully with terrific complexity and a silky, polished style.

This wine has a promising aging potential, with Jeff Leve suggesting at least 8 more years of bottle age. Overall, the 2008 Cos d'Estournel is a top-tier wine that showcases the elegance and complexity of Bordeaux, making it a must-try for wine enthusiasts.
