On the palate, it's full-bodied, layered and muscular, with an ample chassis of structuring dry extract, ripe acids and a long, sapid finish. This cuvée derives its name from the year in which the Philipponnat family settled in Ay, and it's intended to foreground the virtues of the wines of that village. - William Kelley

The style is tight, chalky and linear, the Pinot hitherto deferential to the discrete charm of the minority Chardonnay. Very fine, in both senses of the word, this wine captures the essential purity which Charles places at the stylistic heart of his range. The palate has a super rich feel with supple and juicy, lemon and pink grapefruit flavors, framed in some savory, toasted bread. Very fresh and generously textured. Drink or hold.
