With its balance of crisp minerality and richness, it is a great wine from a medium-quality vintage. Although the wine is ready to drink, its style says that it will age further and could be enjoyed when it has become more toasty from 2022. - Roger Voss

Unwinding in the glass with scents of citrus zest, white flowers, crushed chalk and hints of fresh sourdoughs, it's medium to full-bodied, racy and precise, with a nicely concentrated and tightly wound core, tangy acids and an elegant pinpoint mousse. After the rich, muscular 2012 vintage, the 2013 represents quite a contrast; I'm not sure we'll see its stylistic like again for some time, so readers with classically inclined palates will want to stock up—advice I'll be following myself. - WK

A tight, structured vintage Champagne with cherry, spice and some dried strawberry. Hints of biscuits, too. It’s medium-bodied with a tight, structured palate and a long, flavorful finish. Drink or hold.

The palate, with air, transforms sourdough into pastry, green apples into spicy quince and kumquat, with spring flowers and shortbread in support. Preserved salted lemons, and a whisper of cashew and buttermilk, restraint and finesse above all else but the potential to grow and prosper is underwritten by a firm structure and an impressive purity of fruit. Pol Roger

Pol Roger is one of the oldest and most-distinguished luxury Champagne firms. Based in the heart of Epernay, it was established in 1849 and remains one of the few family-owned, grande-marquee Champagne houses. Five generations have remained loyal to the firm’s essential values of excellence and independence, ensuring that each wine is treated as an impeccable ambassador to their 160 years of history.

Pol Roger has carved out one of the most flattering reputations in the select circle of the leading Champagne brands. A personal favorite of Sir Winston Churchill (who has the firm’s top cuvee named after him), Pol Roger champagne has also been the British Royal Family’s choice over the years.

The house grows more than half its grapes on 89 estate hectares and sources the rest from select growers. Their cellars extend below the Avenue de Champagne for over seven kilometers on two levels. The deeper cellar maintains a lower temperature for the wine to develop finer bubbles.

The Pol Roger portfolio includes a vintage brut, a non-vintage brut, a brut nature, a demi sec, a vintage rose, a blanc de blancs and the Sir Winston Churchill prestige cuvee.
