The Champagne Pierre Gerbais 2016 “Grains de Celles” Extra Brut Rosé is composed of a blend of fifty percent pinot noir and twenty-five percent each of chardonnay and pinot blanc. It was disgorged in April of 2019 and finished with a dosage of between three and four grams. It offers up a lovely bouquet of strawberries, tangerine, chalky minerality, warm bread and a topnote of dried flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and still youthfully snappy, with a good core of fruit, fine soil signature, frothy mousse and a long, vibrant and still very youthful finish. To my palate, this needs time to soften up a bit structurally, but it is a fairly recent disgorgement and it may start to stir more briskly than I anticipate.
