The 2016 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, like all the Villa S. Anna wines, is a tense, firmly structured wine. Wild dark cherry, underbrush, dried herbs and crushed flowers are some of the many nuances that flesh out in the glass. My impression is that the 2016 will be even better with another few years in bottle, although it is quite appealing today, especially for readers who can handle the bright acids and persistent tannin of young Sangiovese.
