Vineyard 29, based in St. Helena in Napa Valley, is best known for limited-production Cabernet Sauvignon, and its 2018 “Cru” Cabernet Sauvignon is positioned as a Napa Valley blend distinct from the estate’s flagship bottlings. In 2018, that Cru label delivers a polished, ready-to-enjoy expression of Napa Cabernet while still showing depth and classic dark-fruit character.

The strongest professional review comes from Jeb Dunnuck, who awarded 94 points—an excellent score—and highlighted both aromatic complexity and structure. Dunnuck writes that “plums, Asian spices, tobacco, and lead pencil notes emerge,” and says the wine lands with “medium to full-bodied richness” plus a “beautifully polished, elegant texture, and outstanding length.” He also emphasizes its completeness, calling it “another gorgeous 2018 displaying notable purity, balance, and length as well as richness,” and suggests it “can be drunk any time over the coming 15+ years.”

Vinous rated the wine 92 points, with Antonio Galloni describing it as “fabulous” and framing it as “a gorgeous, entry-level offering.” Galloni focuses on freshness and immediate appeal: “bright, captivating aromatics,” a “fresh and juicy” palate, and flavors of “black cherry, mocha, licorice and chocolate.” His recommended window is shorter and more casual than Dunnuck’s: “Drink it over the next handful of years.”

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate scored it 90 points and provides the most concrete technical detail on composition: “a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Malbec,” reviewed by Lisa Perrotti-Brown. She notes “warm cassis, plum preserves and blueberry compote,” with accents of “chocolate mint and candied violets,” and calls the palate “elegantly styled and refreshing,” finishing with “an herbal lift.”

Overall, the 2018 Cru reads as a balanced Napa Cabernet: dark-fruited and polished, with enough freshness and lift to keep it agile at the table and attractive on release.
