Pol Roger’s Brut Rosé Vintage 2019 is a dry, vintage-only rosé Champagne from Épernay, made in select years rather than as a non-vintage staple. The house draws fruit from around 20 premier and grand cru vineyards, with key Pinot Noir sources including Ambonnay, Hautvillers, and (notably) Vertus. For 2019, Pol Roger reports a blend of 63.5% Pinot Noir and 36.5% Chardonnay, with the rosé character built through the addition of 18% still red Pinot Noir wine. Fermentation is in stainless steel with full malolactic conversion, followed by bottle aging in the estate’s deep, cool cellars and traditional hand-riddling before release.
In the glass, the wine is positioned by reviewers as fruit-driven and structurally serious, with the red-wine component clearly shaping its profile. Jeb Dunnuck calls it “a more exceptional wine in the range,” emphasizing that it is “structured, compact, and defined, with ripe raspberries,” and highlighting “real structure, saltiness, and rhubarb” alongside a “pinpoint, lively, zesty mousse.” Dunnuck’s 95-point review stands out as an excellent assessment, and he adds a strong cellar-worthy conclusion: the wine “can age for two decades or more without issue.”
Vinous (Antonio Galloni) also rates it highly at 94 points, describing “a pretty rich, heady wine” and “a decidedly extroverted Champagne,” with “sweet red cherry, rose petal, dried herbs and kirsch… dialed up.”
Decanter’s 94-point review is equally emphatic, calling it “the finest I have tasted in recent years” and praising its Pinot Noir expression—“juicy cherry, raspberry and pomegranate”—while noting it remains “never over-sweet or broad.” Decanter suggests it will knit further with short-term bottle time, as it still shows “the slightly jumpy energy of youth.”
