Marchesi Antinori’s 2020 Tignanello (IGT Toscana) is a modern Tuscan red built on Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, shaped by a polished oak regimen and a ripe, clean vintage. The wine is aged “15 months in French and Hungarian oak barrels” followed by “12 months in bottle,” and it comes from a year in which Antinori began picking on September 20 and finished by October 9. Some sources cite 14% alcohol. Production is sizable for a prestige wine, with Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate noting “annual production falls between 300,000–350,000 bottles.”
Critics largely agree that 2020 delivers immediate appeal with the structure to improve. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate (95 points) calls it “newly on the market” with “a gorgeous bouquet” and an “upfront and accessible personality,” detailing flavors of “dark cherry, dried raspberry, spice, toasted almond and citrusy blood orange.” The same review emphasizes approachability: “This vintage is very pretty and won’t require a long wait,” with “sweet and silky” tannins.
Vinous’ Antonio Galloni awards an excellent 96 points and leans into the wine’s youthful energy, saying it is “so primary, so intensely fruit-driven, that it almost tastes like a barrel sample.” He describes “a burst of red Sangiovese fruit” plus “blood orange, cinnamon, spice, dried flowers and mocha,” adding that the wine is “wonderfully sleek and racy” with “fine tannins” and “just sublime” balance.
James Suckling posts an outstanding 97-point review, praising “violets and lavender with dark fruit and hints of dark chocolate,” a “medium-bodied” palate, and a finish that is “very long… for minutes,” concluding simply: “Precision.”
Wine Spectator (94 points) highlights the darker register—“black cherry, blackberry, iron, tobacco and vanilla”—and expects longevity, calling it “alluring and classy” and recommending it “from 2026 through 2045.” Overall, 2020 Tignanello reads as both crowd-pleasing now and credibly ageworthy.
